Bling Things

Jewelry That Adds Sass to Your Wardrobe
Sometimes all it takes is one special necklace, a stack of bangles or a big cocktail ring to kick up the style quotient of an outfit from hum drum to hot diggity! We've picked our top choices to make everything from a simple t-shirt dandy to a dress more dazzling. This week's Friday Favorites have become our new "obsessories."

Maritius Gold & Rhodium Custom Aqua Cluster Hinge Bracelet, on sale $198 Alexis Bittar

Bold? Heck yeah! Nobody will need glasses to spot this on your wrist. Alexis Bittar, if you read this, know that I am a huge fan of your work! I own more Diane Von Furstenberg than any other designer and for jewelry he tops the list!

Short Crystal Bib Necklace, $39.50 Loft

Bib necklaces aren't new, but this crystal necklace looks vintage! When paired with a cashmere crew neck sweater and a pleated A-line skirt it will look like I borrowed it from my grandmother's jewelry box.

Stary Stare Ear Cuff, $10 Urbanog

When ear cuffs started showing up on the jewelry radar they became my new "obsessory". It gives a great reason to work a side hair swoop or a sleek high bun to show off a fancy ear piece. An ear cuff can jazz up any outfit, from a simple tshirt and jeans to a classic LBD.

Cursive Letter Necklace, $52 Olive Yew

For my everyday jewelry, I love simple, meaningful pieces like this rose gold initial necklace from Olive Yew. This is perfect for yourself (or a gift for a friend). If you're anything like me...you want the initial of your significant other and/or kids. Simplicity makes a beautiful statement!

Teacup Spoon Crystal Ring, $10 She Inside

This little tea party ring looks like something out of Alice in Wonderland and I LOVE it! It's a great conversation piece and suits me perfectly for my tea drinking habits. Even if you're not the tea partying type, you gotta admit, this two-fingered ring brings on the bling!

Waist Appeal!

I can find a reason to wear a belt with just about anything, and to me, it's an accessory that can easily change the personality of an outfit. Of course, you need your standard blacks and browns of various widths, but then there's skinny patents in multiple colors, leopard and cheetah prints, stripes galore, beaded, silk sashes, leather obis, wide leather bands with stretch, and the endless possible buckle designs. So for this week's Friday Favorites we chose several of our top picks that help define and nip the waist.

Snakeskin Covered Buckle Belt, $45 J. Crew

Best Mate Belt, $52 Madewell

If you saw my collection of belts you'd understand why I couldn't pick just one for this week's Friday Favorites, in fact I had a hard time just suggesting two belts.

Take A Stroll Bow Belt, $13 Ruche

I don't always wear belts, but when I'm on the hunt for one, I always check out the selection at Ruche. They're always super cute and perfectly priced. I love this neutral bow belt and it would look great with just about anything!

Mixed Plait Belt, $17 ASOS

Funny thing about this: it's actually a men's belt, but I love the color contrast and the thickness of it. When it comes to holding up this gal's pants, a skinny-minnie belt just won't do. Plus, because of the plaited design, it can fit any length, so I can wear it at the hips with pants and shorts, or at the waist with a funky skirt.

Metal Plate Belt,  $60 Witchery

It's amazing what a belt can do for an outfit.  I'm a fan of the hardware trend on belts because it brings just the right amount of attention to the waist. The gold hardware makes it edgy but classy at the same time. I love styling it with a plain colored dress or an oversized shirt to create sexy definition.

Street Swag

The countdown begins! 18 days until Christmas and we're excited to get the tree and decorate the house. Tune in to our videos starting next week filled with gift suggestions, recipes, decor, entertaining and even how to create your own ugly holiday sweater because sometimes you need a break from being fancy. Enjoy!

Jay Godfrey, Adams Maxi Dress, on sale for $270 Cusp

May I pour you a drink? That's what I imagine saying to guests when they arrive at the door for the holidays while wearing this stylish, yet comfortable dress. Just needs some dangly earrings and a big cuff.

Essie nail polish, $8 bottle Essie

I am kinda a nail polish fanatic, okay okay, I AM a nail polish fanatic. (There's no "kinda" about it.) I have so many shades and different brands, that I actually have researched buying some sort of modern style nail salon display case for them. Yes, it's that bad! My favorite line of polishes is from Essie. So many amazing colors, and they paint on like a dream! I hope my stocking is filled with these colors from their winter collection. You hear me Santa? I would be such a good girl...with awesome nails of course!

Lauren's Pick

The Body Shop Fragrance Oils and Burners, $16 Burner, $5 for each oil The Body Shop

Each day this week, I've had a different holiday scent flowing through my apartment; not because I've been baking cookies or putting up a fresh spruce tree, but because I've been burning these oils from The Body Shop. I like them so much better than scented candles because they last longer, the scent spreads more, and the best part- you can mix fragrances for a unique combination. My favorites around the holidays are Juniper Berry, for a sweet yet woodsy feel, and Vanilla Bliss, which has me craving sugar cookies. I also like their more fruity scents, like Exotic and Peach.

Studded Collar Necklace, $30 Etsy
The collar necklace is definitely a trend to try! The embellished neckpieces help make any outfit standout. Wear them with your favorite knit sweater to add some style and sass. You can also channel your inner Audrey Hepburn and pair it with your favorite LBD for the "Breakfast at Tiffany" look. It's the perfect accessory to wear to any holiday and New Year party.

Sale Steals

When it comes to shopping who can’t resist sale items?!

Stores and designers are in full sale swing during peak summer. They are just looking to get rid of clothes at a way more affordable price. Whether shopping online or at the stores here are a few tips to keep with you on your sale search.

When shopping on the store sale rack…

·      Look for small but fixable defects with an item. For example a missing button or a washable stain. If you point it out to a sale clerk they will most likely give you the additional 10-15% off the already marked down item. But keep in mind it will be final sale.

·      Be practical. Don’t just buy an item because it’s “on sale”. Think how can I wear it? Try to mentally picture it with other items in your closet. If you can use it more than once, buy it!

When shopping online sales…

·      Do an advanced search in your size and price range. In doing so you’re able to get excited over items that fit you and your budget range.

·      Pay attention to an item description. The type of material is important to know because it will help determine what size you may need to get and how to keep your items looking great past the summer season.

·      Measurements are key for online shopping. Most stores do have the standard sizes. Unfortunately sizes are not universal and there are some buyers that you need to carefully read the description and match measurements that fit. Knowing those measurements will save you a trip to the post office for an exchange.

One of the easiest things to shop online for are Accessories.

Here are a few sale steals you’ll be able to use all summer long. Time to go shopping without going to the mall.
