First Fashion Picks For Fall

It's expected to hit 103 degrees in Los Angeles today so thinking about Fall is far from our thoughts. We are collectively thinking about this holiday weekend and how much time we can log in at the pool or the beach. My thoughts always go to dresses then shoes for Fall. My wish list includes new knee high boots that hug my calves and the perfect animal print heels. Not to mention dresses that work in LA temperatures, but still pack well for trips to New York City to be worn with a trench or cashmere coat.

Alison's Pick

Leandri Printed Chiffon Dress, Diane Von Furstenberg $398

My dress obsessed tendencies lead me to pick this dress from DVF. Just right for the early days of Fall, I could easily layer a jacket over the top and even add a blue patent belt.

Christina Wright's Pick

Striped Terry Dress, $40 Anthropologie

Thank goodness for transitional pieces like this dress from Anthropologie. It's a perfect Summer beachy nautical dress, but come Fall I will wear it with some leggings and tan colored boots. Boom...instant Fall! Here in southern California, Fall doesn't hit as hard as it did when I lived in the Bay area, it's almost like an extended Summer. So it's great to have more options, like dresses over tights.

Simply Modern Weddings

Lauren's Pick

Disaster Designs with Love Satchel, $61 Clothes Lounge

Even if I'm not headed back to school, Fall is the time to take a walk over to the warm, fuzzy coffee shop down the street, settle up with a pumpkin spice latte, and get some writing done. Of course, I need something cute and stylish bag to carry my notebooks and this handy satchel is the perfect thing! It's big enough to fit everything important, without being too bulky, and I love the mashup of patterns. From the newspaper patterned background to the delicate lacy look around the corners!

Endless Amusement

Christina Moffitino's Pick

Jeffrey Campbell Everly Bootie, $200 Nordstrom

These boots can step into the cooler Fall months in style. The edgy cut outs are a perfect pairing for those Summer shorts and screen tees. The start of Fall always means a new pair of boots, at least for me. Big chunky boots won't be styled in my wardrobe for awhile but until then I'll be rocking these gold embellished booties.

Street Swag

These boots are made for stepping out in style! Check out our top picks for Fall boot trends. Snag your pair before they run out of your size.

Ankle Boot with Metal Toe, Zara $159          Kate Spade Bridgette, Zappos $328

Whether worn with a skirt, skinny jeans or just peeking out from under long hemmed pants, ankle boots are a trend that is here to stay.

Pauline Motorcycle Boot, Sole Society $70     Tarney Stud Lace-up Boot, Steve Madden $150

Weathered, worn and comfortable for a midcalf that we turn to time after time for casual appeal.

DV by Dolce Vita, PiperLime  $180           Flat Crocodile Boot, Zara $230

When pulling over skinny jeans or wearing to work with a skirt, these "riding" style options allow us to stand or walk all day without heel pain.

Heeled Boots

Park, Stuart Weitzman $595                   Crystal, Diane von Furstenberg  $330

Of course, we all need a sassy, sexy pair of knee high, heeled boots.

Color Block Bootie, Shop Bop $300             Nola Slouch, Cole Haan $428

When you have just about every boot choice in your closet, a little color is usually next on the list of must haves.

We love this look for workwear. Unless you work in a corporate setting where skirt suits and hosiery are still required, most work attire has become far more creative. Many in my industry haven't bought a full matching suit in countless years. Instead, it's the art of mixing separates. This look works multiple ways in your wardrobe and easily transitions from 9-5 to cocktails. The skirt, while fitted, isn't mini so there's no concern you're showing off the goods if you bend down. The blouse is a classic staple for your closet while the blazer will work with a skirt, pants or even jeans on weekends. And what better way to create your own style identity than with accessories. The bib necklace and gold toe cap heels are statement makers. The necklace would help make a simple strapless black dress stand out and the cap toe heel poking out from under long hemmed pants in any color from red, burgundy, teal to hunter.

Blouse, H&M $56                        Crepe Open Front Blazer, New Look $40

Color-Block Pencil Skirt, Shopbop $118

Jeweled Bib Necklace, Go Jane $29                Toe Cap Pumps, Mango $110

Ostrich Embossed Shoulder Bag, Zappos $64

When it Comes to Fall Fashion.... I was overwhelmed by all the heel and boot options that I shopped early.  Coats, clothes and jewelry are beckoning from the back seat right now, but by next month they'll move into the driver's seat. Celine boots, $1,290 Simply put, Couldn't, wouldn't, shouldn't. But.... Celine.com So instead, Prada Tall Wedge Boots, $795 Walk tall, has a slim leg and better support with a wedge. And yes, they're expensive. Less expensive than the Celine boots, but still pricey. It's a splurge for a a fabulous boot to fit slim calves. Saks.com Phillip Lim 3.1 Trench Coat, $995 Living in LA I really don't have a reason to pull this fully lined trench on a daily basis, but it would be great for trips to NYC dashing from a TV studio to a cab and then dinner with girlfriends. NeimanMarcus.com M Mavi Jewelry, $200 It's all about the big Victorian cuff and this solid brass George Eliot cuff with antique gold finish on brown leather with gold snaps is bold and beautiful. All I need to wear it with is a white button down with the sleeves rolled up or a simple boat neck cashmere sweater. "Our deeds determine us as much as we determine our deeds. -George Eliot MMavi.com Prada cut-out heels, $695 I have nearly worn out my nude tone platform DVF heels and it's time for a replacement. I've chosen nude colored heels far more than any other shoe in my wardrobe all summer and I plan to keep it going strong for Fall.  These Prada heels will do the trick with just slightly more coverage! Barneys.com Tory Burch Rainelle Motorcyle Boots, $495 There's something both tough and sexy about these boots. I scooped these up during Fashion Night Out at Bloomingdale's in LA, but they can be found online at Shopbop. I've already paired these mid calf boots with black tights and a mini dress. These will look very cool worn with skinny jeans or leggings with full view of the boot details and great for travel when just the front is peaking out from under dark trouser jeans. Shopbop.com
