The Big Chill

It may seem too early to shop for a coat, but it'll be worth it to shop now and have plenty of choices from the top trends and be prepared when those artic-like winds start blowing.

Admit it, last year around this time you were probably headed to work wearing a waist skimming, lightweight jacket and thinking, "my it's chilly this morning" so you decide it's time to switch to a pumpkin spice latte to warm you up. Then by lunchtime, the sun is blazing and you're sweating. Speed forward to a week later and Halloween night arrives and you've got on that skimpy little costume to wear to the party. You pull on that same lightweight jacket from the week prior and that's when the wind picks up and that jacket suddenly feels paper thin. You had planned to walk to the party, but now you're hailing a cab or asking your boyfriend to drop you off at the door while he looks for a parking space.

That's where we come in with 21 of the top picks for coats this fall.

Fit and Flare Wool Coat, $250.60 Armani Exchange

I'll be excited to bust out my winter wear once temperatures finally drop here in LA; one of my favorites pieces being coats! I love the latest colors, trends and patterns this season, but I still love a classic. This fit and flare shape does a body good when you're layering to keep warm. I look sleek with tights and thigh high boots for a night out or even straight leg jeans and cut out booties. The neutral color choice in sand is one that works with every outfit and a piece I know I'll reuse year after year. To spice things up, color can come into play with a patterned scarf and a deep red lipcolor.

Khaki Windbreaker, $46 Ahai Shopping

Cold and dreary weather can get me down, so I like a coat with some color and a bold contrast to pick me up. This navy-khaki coloblock combination has a chic look and a flattering fit, made with a cotton blend that doesn't feel heavy. I also love the belts at the waist and cuffs, not to mention the golden crest buttons that give it a bit of a military look.

Nine West Wool-Blend Boucle Car Coat, $137.19 Macy's

I love with this boucle colorblock coat from Nine West. The grey tweed with the black is awesome! It will go with anything! And the price, equally awesome. I just can't handle it. It's a total must have!

Orange You Happy

Orange is one of those colors in the spectrum that screams "Be Happy!" Whenever I find a dress or top with orange in the mix, I'm drawn to it. It's as if a magnetic beam pulls me in. Head-to-toe orange may be strong, but undoubtedly you'll get noticed. This week our Friday Favorites features how the color orange makes us happy. So orange you glad we picked it this week? OK, I'll stop now.

Orange is the New Black, Netflix

My husband and I binged on "House of Cards" over Memorial Day Weekend and now we're trying to slowly savor Netflix's latest "Orange is the New Black." The show revolves around Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling). Piper is a woman from Connecticut, living in New York City who is sent to the women's Litchfield, NY federal prison for 15 months for transporting a suitcase full of drug money for Alex Vause ( Laura Prepon). Alex is an international drug smuggler and Chapman's former lover who ends up in the same prison. The episodes feature their story along with the daily issues of being in prison, plus the stories of other characters and how they ended up in prison. Excellent mix of drama and comedy or as the industry calls it - dramedy. While an ill-fitting orange jumpsuit isn't appealing, I'm officially hooked on this show!

iPad case, $34.99 The Snugg

I've been traveling with this brightly color iPad cover. The Snugg offers multiple cover sizes and colors in leather to choose for your various gadgets. There's something for everyone, no matter what brand or incarnation from an iPad 1 to an iPhone 5 to a Kindle Fire. I like it bright but the other selling point is the folding case! When you want to be hands free prop it upto watch a movie.

Adrianna Papell Print Faux Wrap Dress, $118 Nordstrom

Speaking of travel, this orange and blue print dress will pack in a cinch and come out of your bag nearly wrinkle free. Pull on sandals and you're ready for dinner.

Miss Priss Satchel, $50 Olivia+Joy

Orange is certainly bright and before the color blocked trend surfaced, it wasn't a common color to incorporate into our wardrobe. I love using it as an accent to my outfit by pairing it with great contrast colors like dark blue or grey. A pop of orange as an accessory like a bag, belt, or necklace is the perfect way to transition out from standard darks and neutrals to having fun with bold brights.

Dolly Cropped Orange Cardigan, $30 Fever Designs

This cropped cardigan has a flattering fit, a simple pattern, and a bold orange color to make it pop. Admittedly, I'm more of a cool-colored gal, but bright colored layers or accessories are a must when I want to warm up my wardrobe.  It goes great with my dark-wash jeans but it's also nice to pair with a sleek, summery dress if the weather gets chilly. When your wardrobe or your shoulders need a little warmth, orange you glad you've got a cute cropped cardigan??

Sequined Sweater, $80 Zara

It's the same every year, once the weather drops below 70 degrees, I start pulling out my favorite fall gear: leggings, boots, and cozy sweaters. I saw this lovely sweater from Zara on my recent European trip, and I am kinda mad at myself for not buying it then! It's perfectly cozy for staying warm in our California's "not quite" fall/winter season, but I am also loving the fun sequin & bow detail...so it's stylish and versatile.
